Clogged Toilets

Clogged Toilets

The toilet is one of the few systems in our home that is vital to daily life. It is important to maintain the toilet bowl and keep it free of bacteria that can grow and cause sickness for our family. Cleaning it regularly and taking the necessary precautions will allow not only foster a clean environment, but a pleasant aromatic and stink-free atmosphere, as well. Following are a few simple steps to follow on a periodic basis to maintain the toilet working as it should, for when we need it most.

First, cleaning the bowl periodically with naturally cleansers such as with a 1/4 a cup of baking powder and a half of a lemon with a good scrub brush is a great alternative to using bleach or other harsh cleaners. This mixture is both environmentally safe and easy on you, your family, and even your plumbing. The baking powder will scrub spots and the lemon will disinfect and leave a pleasant ‘just cleaned’ aroma for your bathroom.

For harder stains on the toilet bowl, you can use environmentally safe enzymatic biological drain cleaners, such as Biokleen, at your local hardware store that are easy to use and still safe for you and your family to use, as well as for the planet, but does not contain harsh chemicals and still gets the job done.

Another tip for keeping the toilet clean and stink-free is to make sure you do not flush down anything that isn’t waste or toilet paper down the toilet. Items, such as sanitary napkins, diapers, and cigarette butts should be thrown out in a closed garbage container.
